Randy Strong - Studio Art Glass
800.957.2673 Randy Strong has created elegant and highly sought-after works in glass for over 25 years. By combining his eye for contemporary design with ancient techniques of glassblowing, he designs and creates works of art that are truly unique. In recent years, Strong has developed his own techniques for working with dichroic glass. This skill has restructured his art and propelled him into a higher level as an artist and a craftsman. Born in Oakland, California, Randy earned his BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1970. He did his graduate work in Japan on a scholarship at Osaka University of the Arts. While there he was inspired by the grace and simplicity of Japanese art and life. These elements are integral parts of his work, evidenced through his form, use of color, and simplified line. As a modern day master of this ancient craft, Strong is one of a handful of American Glass artists currently working in the medium of hot glass. Since the 1960’s and the Modern Art Glass Movement, art glass has become an important part of our society, our culture. This medium all but disappeared in the United States with the advent of mass production. Today, more and more museums are devoting space to display the masterful glassworks that have emerged during the last four decades. Randy Strong, along with a few others, is bringing the fine art of glassmaking back to level of skill and status it once held in an era when only royalty enjoyed the privilege of owning such fascinating works of art. His work has been collected and exhibited throughout the world in prominent public and private collections, including The Louvre -Paris, The Osaka Museum of Art - Japan, The San Francisco Museum of Art - U.S.A., The Ludwig Shraffarth Collection - Germany, The John D, Rockefeller Collection - U.S.A., and the IBM Collection - U.S.A.
