Rogers Glass Works produces contemporary hand-blown glass reflecting the artistic visions of Jean and Kevin Rogers, as well as their mastery of technique - and their passion for perfection. Jean explains, "We both seriously care about what we do, and everything that leaves our studio reflects that attitude."

With twenty-five years of expertise in the art and craft of hand-blown glass, Jean and Kevin established Rogers Glass Works in 1995. Jean had begun working in stained glass in 1971 and studied at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington. In 1981 Kevin became head gaffer for Hale Farm Glassworks, producing fine 1830s reproductions sold in more than fifty museum gift shops. Meanwhile, Jean earned a BFA in Crafts and Design at Kent State University. They moved to California and worked for ten years in contemporary glass studios, developing their expertise in modern techniques and equipment.

Pieces by Rogers Glass Works have won numerous awards. The impact of the design arises from the relationship between color and form, combining Jean's love of colors "that make your eyeballs bounce" with Kevin's commitment to shape, angle, grace, and perfection. Using traditional and modern techniques, they have created a joyful and vibrant art form.

Kevin Rogers on His Work:
I was infatuated with hot glass from the first day. I love the constant motion of the glass and the movements necessary for its control. A glassblower must flow along, constantly aware of what the glass is doing and about to do. Glass has a mind of its own; as it takes shape, it must be coaxed and caressed, not forced. After eighteen years of working with glass, I've come to know it - to know its dance. I'm still working on my dance steps! The shapes and colors I am working with now are my tribute to early Industrial Age designers, comics, science fiction, and those wonderful futuristic '50s views of the Atomic Age.

Jean Rogers on Her Work
Glass is magic! As fire breathes life and light into its earthen raw materials, they are transformed into a blaze of color. Now alive, the glass is seductive and willful, fluid, and rigid. My primitive side is drawn to the dance in front of the furnace. The dance becomes a ritual as it is repeated time and again. The finished glass piece is like the program we take home from the performance - a magical memory. I love color and the relationships between colors. Bright pure colors that bounce off of each other make me feel good! My influences surround me - the garden in full bloom, people in a crowd, the children's toys I collect and, of course, the studio itself.
