George Ponzini - Studio Art Glass
800.957.2673 George Ponzini was born in New York in 1952. While studying at Franklin Pierce College, Ponzini was introduced to glass in 1974. Shortly thereafter he was concentrating on glass and furniture at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He has studied glass at Pilchuck Glass School and Penland School, and also served on the faculty of the Sharon Arts Center in New Hampshire. George has been honored as a Fellowship Recipient from the Vermont Council of the Arts and the Grodin Award for Excellence in Design and Craftsmanship. Ponzini’s glass sculptures are engaging and elegant. He captures the feeling of art deco through his stunning compositions of blown and constructed elements. Utilizing very little color, the designs are enhanced by the variety of texture and forms which are combined together to create each piece. Each piece is made individually thus no two are exactly alike. Ponzini’s works are found in Museums throughout the world including the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Wyoming; the Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C.; Glasmuseum Ebeltoft in Denmark; and the International Exhibition of Glass Craft in Kanazawa, Japan.
