Non-traditional kaleidoscopes
An interactive optical device, the Holoscope creates optical illusions based on complex geometric forms. Essentially, each Holoscope consists of multiple small mirrors joined together to create the external geometric form. These unassuming little forms are quite lovely sitting on a shelf. Covered in kaleidoscopic prints they invite closer consideration.

Pick up and peer into the main viewing area. Feel as though you are transported to outer space and you are floating among the stars and planets. Crucial to the success of each image is the inclusion of light coming into each piece through the strategically placed openings at each apex. In other words, it appears as though the 'tips" of each (mirror) junction are missing or have been cut off. This allows light and color to enter the illusion. Move around and see how your environment impacts the illusion. See what happens when you peek through the small holes and be surprised by what you will find.

From left the cube is made from 6 mirrors. It measures 1.5 inches square. $100. At center, 20 mirrors create this Holoscope. It measures 4.5 inches in diameter. $380. At right, a slightly smaller version of the Holoscope at center also houses 20 mirrors. It measures 3 inches in diameter. $180.
