Golden Threads Spinning Dreams
Mixed-media kaleidoscope
Golden Threads Spinning Dreams is not just an appealing title. It is an apt description for the classical beauty and elegance found in this special edition by Sherry Moser.
To make the body of Golden Threads Spinning Dreams, Moser backed clear glass with wonderful handmade paper that has threads of gold running through the subdued colors and textures. The body is accented with rods of colored green glass. The base is made from chunks of green glass that had been fused together, and then mounted onto a wooden base. Sculpturally, it is just outstanding.
The title, however, is derived from the chamber. On each piece of glass, you will find a golden glass thread border. Moser's skill as a flameworker is clearly evident in these wonderful miniature sculptures. Suspended in the glycerin, the colorful glass pieces become even more brilliant against the black background of the chamber.
Dichroic glass is a wonderful invention; its properties are particularly exquisite when viewed through a kaleidoscope mirror system. Moser's use of dichroic glass is extraordinary. Combined with translucent and opaque glass, the color ranges in her chambers seem endless.
Optically, Golden Threads Spinning Dreams has a two-mirror system that forms a 30-60-90 degree triangular shape. Thus the two mirrors have different widths. This is important because the resulting image has pointed edges, rather than a traditional "rounded" image most commonly found in typical two-mirror systems.
Golden Threads Spinning Dreams is a limited edition of 25, measuring 12" tall x 7" wide x 13" in length. $1850.
