It is always fun to have a kaleidoscope in the collection that appears to be something other than a kaleidoscope. The Gavel is no exception. It looks lovely on a shelf or in an office. But what a surprise you find inside. Simply lift the Gavel from its base and peer through the opening. Rotate the opposite end where the object chamber is hidden. A large image is created from the three-mirror equilateral system. It is surprising how big the illusion is in such a little scope!

Although unlimited, Nillson stopped making kaleidoscopes shortly after the introduction of the Gavel, so few were made. The Gavel measures 10 inches long with a 2-inch diameter. It sits 5 inches tall on base. The base measures 11.5 inches long by 3 inches deep. $250.
