In Bouquet, Bob and Grace Ade take the three-mirror equilateral converging system to a new dimension. By altering the shape of the mirrors and placing a high-powered magnifying lens on the end, Bouquet creates a spherical image whose surface appears to be covered with kaleidoscopic disks. Each disk intersects with the next, yet at the same time, the disks appear to overlap or float above and below each other, creating a sense of dimension that transcends the surface of the sphere-shape.
Generally in most kaleidoscopes, the surface tends to be two-dimensional. That is, you see the depth and width of each glass piece. However, in Bouquet, the surface becomes three-dimensional. It is almost as if you were looking at a paperweight or marble. Essentially, there is no "surface" to the illusion. The illusion seems to start at the center and continues through to the surface. A novel approach to this mirror system. The image is really quite spectacular once you really take the time to explore the depth of the illusion.
Signature Ade flameworked glass fills the dry chamber. Jewel-tones abound and accentuate the illusion.
Bouquet is a limited edition of 20. It measures 101/2 inches tall x 91/2 inches long with a 6-inch base diameter.
